A platform for global aviation safety collaboration

The International Air Transport Association represents more than 350 airlines across over 120 countries. As the custodian of IOSA and ISAGO, IATA plays a central role in maintaining the highest operational safety standards in air travel. With thousands of safety professionals, auditors and regulators working across regions, the organization needed a way to coordinate safety intelligence, audit data and cross-border collaboration at scale. To meet this need, IATA launched IATA Connect, a secure digital platform that centralizes audit workflows, airline data, safety documentation and collaboration across the global aviation ecosystem. The platform enables airlines, regulators and auditors to share insights, manage compliance processes and coordinate safety actions in real time. By bringing safety-critical information into a unified environment, IATA Connect strengthens transparency and trust across the industry.

Why IATA chose Open Social

Before IATA Connect, critical safety information lived in scattered tools. Audit reports sat in isolated folders, workflows happened through email and PDF exchanges and teams struggled to find the right data. This slowed decision-making and made it harder for global partners to collaborate with confidence.

IATA selected Open Social because it offered:

  • A flexible permissions framework to support airline-tiered access
  • Seamless integration with Power BI, Salesforce and SSO
  • Proven experience with global organizations such as the UN, European Commission and World Bank
  • A collaboration-first approach rather than a document repository
  • A long-term roadmap with scalable governance and data lake integrations

Open Social became a strategic partner that could evolve alongside IATA’s vision. The result was a unified ecosystem where airlines, auditors, regulators and IATA teams can share data, coordinate audits and act on insights in real time.

This shift unlocks network effects across the aviation sector. As more partners engage on the platform, shared intelligence grows, strengthening collective decision-making across safety, compliance and operational risk.

IATA Connect brings the industry together

Engagement across IATA Connect continues to grow as airlines, auditors and regulators use the platform to manage audits, share documentation and discuss safety issues. Structured workflows, clear audit trails and centralized knowledge hubs ensure that teams can access the right information at the right time.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, describes the platform’s impact:

“IATA Connect provides aviation safety and compliance professionals with a means to make flying even safer by facilitating real-time collaboration. By collecting audit data in a single location and making information exchange easier, IATA Connect becomes a compelling tool for everyone involved in aviation safety compliance and oversight.”

IATA Connect ensures that every audit, conversation and safety insight contributes to stronger operational standards across the industry.

Today, IATA and Open Social continue to co-create new capabilities. IATA Connect is evolving into a more intelligent and inclusive ecosystem, supported by AI-driven discovery, benchmarking dashboards and expanded partner participation. This strengthens institutional learning, accelerates safety coordination and supports IATA’s mission to lead global aviation forward.
